Case Study:
MAPPING THE END-TO-END US FOOD COLD CHAIN
Growth Strategy
We were hired by a major player in the US food cold chain to take their understanding deeper in search of unmet needs, pain points, and emerging trends. We created a quantitative end-to-end map and model of the food cold chain and identified more than a dozen areas of opportunity. In collaboration with the client, we fully developed two such opportunities into specific growth strategies.

Project highlights
Recruited supply chain experts at food manufacturers, 3PLs, warehouses, carriers (trucking companies), food distributors and wholesalers, food retailers, and foodservice companies.
Analysis created a quantitative end-to-end pallet-based model quantifying volume of refrigerated and frozen storage and velocity of pallet movement in each leg of the entire cold chain.
Also identified and dimensionalized multiple areas of friction and frustration, highlighting opportunities for the client.
The Client
The client is a major international provider of refrigeration equipment serving the HVAC needs of commercial buildings, including cold storage warehouses, and a provider of mobile refrigeration units used in truck, rail and ocean shipping.
